Dec 10th, 5:50am MST Update: I have checked all videos to make sure they are viewable. (Thanks Trevor for shooting the videos for me.) The black screens in the Google viewers should be replaced by images soon. And even these videos are viewable fine (only the annoying “look” of a black screen).
Dec 10th, 10:09am MST Update: Gordon McDowell has uploaded many minutes of videos of the Saturday event onto the Internet Archive for all to see. Thanks a lot Gordon. You are my man.
*******
Here are some videos captured on Saturday. Sorry for taking sometime to upload them as they are big files and Google Video Uploader hasn’t been that reliable.
A concerned Calgary chat in French with Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry, at Fair Copyright for Canada rally in Calgary on 9th Dec., 2007 – part 4 (note: French is one of the two official languages in Canada where Canadians have a right to be served in). (Note: For people who don’t understand French (me included), I have actually talked to the gentleman afterwards in English to see what were his comments and questions. Here is a video of my chat with him in English.)
One of the event attendee Gordon McDowell has uploaded many minutes of videos of the Saturday event onto the Internet Archive for all to see. Thanks a lot Gordon. You are my man. (note: I am experiencing some difficulties viewing the videos on my Mac using QuickTime 7.3, e.g. the 3.8MB movie and the 17 MB movies. Gordon has just confirmed with me that he can download and watch those videos fine on his PC. I will see if I can find a work around. Gordon has suggested the “VLC Player” for Mac users. Thanks Gordon.)
can somone translate the last video thats in French?
Hi dl,
Since I also don’t understand French, I actually talked to the gentleman afterwards in English to see what were his comments and questions. Here is a video of my chat with him in English. He had a painful experience of having one of his filmmaker interview (conducted and edited by him) being forced to be taken down as a result of a “DMCA take down notice” from Viacom.
Cheers,
Kempton
Well-done Kempton! I like the fact that you not only came with a substantial group of concerned individuals but you all came with food for the foodbank!
Hello Trical,
Yeah, one of the group member suggested since minister Prentice is asking for food donation, we should bring something and we did.
Regards,
Kempton
gj on documenting your journey to meet mr. prentice. also well done on taking donations with you. i havent watched the videos, but check it, your cause was noted from (in my opinion) one of the finest tech. sites on the ‘net. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071211-canadian-dmca-delayed-protestors-cautiously-optimistic.html

OMG we have been criticized…
Lets just roll over and do whatever big money/lobbyists say. Last i checked Canada was formed because we were opposed to amercian ideals. Whats next the privatization of Healthcare or Social Security… Just cause america does something thats stupid and wrong why should we have to?
Someguy,
Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the influence of big money/lobbyists are deeply troubling. I am glad that Canadians are doing something to voice our concerns.
By the way, although the Americans and we live under different democratic system, I can’t think of too many American ideals that I disagree with. Of course, how those ideas are being observed or not observed in American *right now* is a totally different matter.
Regards,
Kempton
After prenticemix.mp3 and madeworseincanada.mp3, I am joining the party too.

They Indeed Have Gone Crazy (feat. Josee Verner)
by Canadian DMCA Unspun
Description:
This clip shows how the new Copyright Bill C-61 threatens ordinary creators instead of protecting them. We are part of the new but very old culture, read-write culture. It’s a culture, where people participate, build and re-build on top of it. This form of culture has existed since the beginning of human society all the way through the present, except for one century – the twentieth. Now, the law is trying to exercise control over the participatory culture via digital locks and predatory legal actions. Starring: Josee Verner (Minister of Heritage, Conservative), Lawrence Lessig and a journalist at press conference. Based on “Places of my mind” by Antonio Ancora. Cover picture by CBC.
Thanks for leaving a new remix here. Nice.

Kempton
