Blogger Dinner (March 15th) – BarCampCalgary Organizing Meeting

March 16th Update: Last night’s meeting went great. I will try to post a “report” later today or tomorrow.

*******

Background:

My friend Austin Hill is visiting Calgary for a few days and we were thinking of going for coffee until he asked – How about a Blogger Dinner? And may be we can get people interested in starting a BarCamp in Calgary to come out and chat.

For those still new to the idea of BarCamp (like me), you can get some idea by checking out BarCampMontreal‘s meeting report one and two (with short videos) of their Feb ’07 DemoCamp gathering. Incidentally, I’ve now taken a baby step and created a BarCampCalgary page on BarCamp.org. I think BarCamp (and DemoCamp) is a really great excuse to meet some smart, cool and insightful people “to share and learn in an open environment“.

    Hi Pat,

I’ve tried, in most places, to emphasize that this Blogger Dinner is an “organizing meeting” or a “dinner to get things started in Calgary” (BarCampCalgary) but I guess it is confusing sometimes.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve now added the words “Organizing Meeting” to the post heading.

    CU,

    Hi Kempton,

Thanks for linking to my coverage of DemoCamps in Montreal. They’re great events to participate in and definitely contribute to the visibility of the local tech scene and sharing of cool ideas.

It’s tremendously important to blog about the events and cover them online as much as possible. I’m sure you’ll be doing great on this so that we in turn can get a glimpse of cool people in the Calgary Tech Scene.

It’s great that a BarCamp is under way in Calgary.

    Excellent blog by the way,

    Cheers,

    Josh

    Hi Josh,

It is me that should thank you for your great coverage of DemoCamps in Montreal. It gives me and others a good sense of what is one look like.

You are absolutely right about blogging the events and cover them online as much as possible. In these days and age of global sharing and learning, it is neat that we can try to stay in touch of what other tech communities are doing in cities around the world.

Thanks for your complement on my blog. I try to share what I am interested in and then add my 2 cents on things.

    Cheers,
    Kempton
