Attending nextMEDIA and Banff

Banff World TV Festival

Wow, it feels great to be home (in Calgary) even if it is only for a few short hours (my WestJet flight got delayed by 1.5 hours). In the next few minutes I will be driving off to Banff for two consecutive conferences (nextMEDIA and Banff World TV Festival) as an accredited blogger/reporter for ideas Revolution.

The first meeting is a breakfast meeting at 7:30am and I have to get there by 7 or 7:10am to register for the conference. So that means I should be leaving now.

During the conference, I am going to try to do a few in-person interviews if I can. Since broadcasters and digital media outlets from around the world are in Banff, I won’t have much time to focus on my beloved CBC, nor CTV and other Canadian media outlets.

For me, I have always tend to draw my inspirations from international media outlets like the UK’s BBC, Japan’s NHK, or Netherlands’ Endemol. Now, based on my last year’s Banff experiences in identifying hit shows like Dragons’ Den even before the Canadian version is widely announced. I should just make sure that I go a bit faster and beat Canadian stations to a show concept before they have a chance to license these potential hit shows. Now, of course, the making of a hit show is not as simple as having an idea or even owning a show concept. There are a lot more work involved, but attending conferences like Banff or nextMEDIA will be a good first step towards that goal.
