Dragons’ Den – Calgary Audition Day 1 – Priceless

Day 1 (April 20, 2007) of the Calgary Dragons’ Den audition was really busy and we ended up staying for an extra hour so that all aspiring entrepreneurs could pitch their businesses. We had to turn away people who arrived after 4pm but they will be back tomorrow in Day 2 of our auditions. We had about 35 entrepreneurs pitching today and if tomorrow’s turnout is what we expected (since tomorrow is Saturday), then we may see 40-50 entrepreneurs and the day will be absolutely crazy.

I promise to blog a little bit about some of the entrepreneurs from the two days of auditions later. (update: Here is that blog entry.) But here is a highlight of how I feel after Day 1 (in the style of those cool Mastercard Priceless ad). I don’t have time to make a video so please use your imaginations. (smile)

  • my first drop of water after hours of self-inflicted dehydration: $2.25
  • a late lunch that took me an hour to finish as I ran around: $4.77
  • talking to and helping passionate Dragons’ Den entrepreneurs in the pursue of their dreams: priceless.

Note: Because we are expecting possibly close to 40-50 entrepreneurs showing up tomorrow, and in an effort to get the entrepreneurs be more prepared. I have taken the initiative to print out Sean’s posting “Questions you need to Answer!!!” plus the two referenced Globe and Mail articles for the entrepreneurs to read and tune their pitch before their turn in front of the camera. Best of luck to the entrepreneurs as I admire all entrepreneurs who take the first step to pursue their dreams and aspirations.
