March 2nd, 2007 update: I have added some new info in this new entry here about Dr. Kirk.

*******

My eye doctor (ophthalmologist) is one of the best doctors that I have seen anywhere and I have known him for years. He is knowledgeable, always have time for his patients, and willing to spend time with patients to give them the best care he can.

So why am I blogging about my ophthalmologist? Well, because I am going to make a short documentary (approx. 25 minutes, 35 max) about him, his practice and also talk about the Canadian and US medical systems.

My impression is that, rightly or wrongly, that the newer generations (and some older ones as well) of doctors are much more likely to adhere to a strict and “efficient” approach of what I termed “assembly line” patients consultation where each patient is given her/his 30 seconds or 3 minutes and then it is time to see the next patient. I hate to say this, but this “efficient” approach will surely be more profitable for the doctors but at what cost to patient care?

I hope, in some sense, by documenting my ophthalmologist and his practice, may be some young and upcoming doctors will adopt a less assembly-line like approach to patient consultation and some light can be shed on the Canadian and the US medical systems.

My doctor has kindly agreed to participate in this documentary and we talked for over two hours yesterday. So the journey has started. From time to time, I will keep you posted on the progress of this doc.

Please email me your comments.

The eye doctor at Myeye doctor in forestville it very nice. Her name is Lynn Dean and she is very kind and helped me fix my glasses. She helped me choose a frame of glasses and she also helped my mom. People like her deserve a promotion in their job, and I believe that she is one of those people. She is the best!!

    Hi Najee,

When you say “eye doctor”, do you me optician ? Opticians are the one that pick frames and fixes glasses. I haven’t seen a medical eye doctor (an MD) that fixes glasses.

    Anyways, thanks for your feedback.

    Best Regards,
    Kempton
